Rex Grossman contacted by Jets after Geno Smith broken jaw
The New York Jets are in emergency mode now that planned starting quarterback Geno Smith will be out 6-10 weeks, and they are looking to add some other QB options. One such player is veteran Rex Grossman.
Reports have said the Jets have contacted Grossman, who has not attempted a pass in an NFL game since 2011.

NFL Network’s Rand Getlin says Grossman is dealing with an injury he suffered during training and needs a few weeks to get ready. Grossman has gone 25-22 as a starter during his career, with his most recent work coming when he started for Washington in 2011 and went 5-8. He was on the roster for the ‘Skins the following two seasons but did not see any game action.
Getlin also mentioned Mike Vick, Matt Flynn, Caleb Hanie and Jason Campbell as other QBs to keep an eye on in addition to Grossman.
The Jets’ most immediate replacement options for Smith appear to be Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty, who are already on the team’s depth chart and have been in camp this offseason.
The good news in this whole situation is at least Smith will probably improve on his turnover numbers this season.
