Richard Sherman has harsh comment about Saints’ defense
The New Orleans Saints came out completely flat in their game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, and Richard Sherman had some harsh commentary about the home team at halftime.
During Amazon’s halftime show at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La., Sherman unloaded on the Saints’ defense. With New Orleans trailing 16-3, the former All-Pro cornerback said he felt like Saints players were deliberately trying to get head coach Dennis Allen fired.
“I’m confused, I’m vexed, I’m perplexed. I don’t get it,” Sherman said. “They don’t wanna tackle. They don’t wanna make plays. These are good players. Tyrann Mathieu is a good player. Wild, easiest interception of his life … and he drops it. I see guys not having effort to get to the ball carrier, to make tackles. I don’t understand this. It seems like they want to get their coach fired. That’s the effort that they’re playing with.”
Richard Sherman goes off about the New Orleans Saints during the Amazon Prime Video #TNF halftime show:
"It seems like they want to get their coach fired! That's the effort they're playing with… Dennis Allen, you call a timeout so we can watch your quarterback take a knee?!" https://t.co/Q7FNzTnWry pic.twitter.com/rVmRVYWydA

Sherman was also critical of Allen, who inexplicably called a timeout when the Saints had the ball on 3rd-and-4 at their own 36-yard line with 6 seconds remaining in the half. Quarterback Spencer Rattler took a knee on the next play.
The dropped interception that Sherman referenced hit Mathieu directly between the numbers. It could have given the Saints a spark in their eventual 33-10 loss to Denver.

The Saints got off to a historic start this season, blowing out their first two opponents by a combined score of 91-29. It has been all downhill since. Injuries have not helped, as they were without both Derek Carr and Chris Olave on Thursday night. New Orleans has also lost breakout wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for the season to a knee injury.
It is not a surprise that the Saints lost given their injury situation, but the game could have been a lot closer if not for some truly embarrassing blunders.
