The Green Bay Packers suspended Romeo Doubs for Sunday’s game amid reports that he was absent from practice without permission this week.

The Packers announced Saturday that Doubs has been placed on the reserve/suspended list for one game, citing conduct detrimental to the team. General manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement that the team hopes to welcome Doubs back next week.

“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game,” Gutekunst said in the statement. “His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action. While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week.”

The Packers have not offered much detail on Doubs’ actions during the week, but James Palmer of Underdog Fantasy reported that the wide receiver “essentially went AWOL” during the week.

Previous reports stated that Doubs is unhappy with his role in the Green Bay offense, which promoted his absence. That is a fairly bizarre complaint considering he has 20 targets, just two less than the team’s joint leaders Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks. Green Bay’s passing numbers are slightly down on account of starting quarterback Jordan Love missing two games, but Doubs has been targeted plenty when Love is in, including eight targets in last week’s loss to Minnesota. He only caught four of those targets for 39 yards, however.

The Packers are indicating that Doubs will be back next week, but this entire affair is not necessarily encouraging for him and his future.
