The New Orleans Saints defense was nothing more than an oxymoron on Monday night, so it’s no surprise that Sean Payton had some words for his defensive coordinator while they were getting dismantled by the Ravens.
The Saints gave up over 400 yards to the Ravens and allowed Baltimore to convert 9/13 third downs. After the Ravens got another third down conversion in the fourth quarter, New Orleans had to call timeout because they had 10 guys on the field.
Payton appeared to get on Ryan’s case after that sequence of events. Baltimore ended up kicking a field goal to go up 27-17.
It’s impossible to blame Payton for getting upset. Ryan coordinated a terrible defensive plan on Monday night. The Saints were just awful all night.
