Shedeur Sanders shouts out 1 NFL legend in postgame interview

Shedeur Sanders in a postgame interview

Shedeur Sanders solidified himself as a Heisman Trophy candidate with his clutch performance in Colorado’s thrilling win over Colorado State, and the quarterback says he drew inspiration from one NFL legend late in the game.

Sanders led a 98-yard, game-tying touchdown drive that began with just 2:06 remaining in regulation. He threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Horn Jr. with just 36 seconds left and then hit tight end Michael Harrison for the 2-point conversion. Colorado went on to win in double-overtime, where Sanders once again shined.

After the game, Sanders told ESPN that he channeled his inner Tom Brady when Colorado got the ball at their own 2-yard line.

“At the 2, all I was thinking was Brady mode. That’s it, simple,” Sanders said. “Brady mode, that’s it. You left too much time out there.”

Brady was famous for his late-game heroics. As Sanders said, many of those drives came when opposing teams left too much time on the clock for the seven-time Super Bowl champion. Colorado State managed to burn up about 5 minutes before punting to Colorado, but Sanders only needed 90 seconds to go 98 yards.

Colorado may not have beaten Colorado State as badly as they wanted after Jay Norvell made things personal, but Sanders still managed to get the job done. The Buffaloes improved to 3-0 with the victory.
