St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey is in a Florida hospital being treated after being shot in the head on Tuesday night.

Bailey is away from the Rams after being suspended four games earlier this month for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. NFL Media’s Mike Silver reports that Bailey was involved in a shooting incident and was shot in the head, though luckily the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A Rams source confirmed to me that Stedman Bailey was involved in shooting incident & suffered a head wound. Not considered life-threatening

Source said Bailey will undergo surgery in the morning. Again, head wound not believed to be life-threatening. Rams gathering more info

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport shared more details and says Bailey is in stable condition:

#Rams WR Stedman Bailey was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car with 2 young relatives & his cousin. He is stable in a Miami ICU

Stedman Bailey will have surgery tomorrow. The driver was shot many times, shielding the kids from bullets. His wounds are life threatening

Bailey was a third-round pick by the Rams in 2013. He has 59 catches for 843 yards and two receiving touchdowns in his career.

The team issued the following statement:

“We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Bailey received some tweets of support from fellow NFL players:
