A successful fake field goal is somewhat rare in the NFL, but the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled one off to perfection on Sunday.
On 4th and goal, Pittsburgh dialed up the fake, setting up kicker Chris Boswell to throw a touchdown pass to offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva to tie the Denver Broncos at 10.

Villanueva played some wide receiver in college at Army, so this wasn’t totally foreign to him. It’s still a blast to see an offensive lineman hauling in a touchdown from a kicker, though.
It’s so easy for fake field goals to go wrong in the NFL. You simply have to appreciate one that’s well-executed and successful, and this was certainly that.
