The New York Giants dealt with numerous injuries to their wide receiver corps during the preseason, and those issues are now spilling over into meaningful games.
On Friday, the Giants announced that Sterling Shepard has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills with a concussion. Cody Latimer, who is dealing with a calf injury, is listed as questionable.
Shepard suffered a fractured thumb during training camp but was able to battle back to be available for Week 1, so the head injury is another example of the bad luck he has been having. Shepard is expected to step into the No. 1 receiver role in New York now that Odell Beckham Jr. is no longer with the team, and the Giants gave him a $41 million extension during the offseason.
The Giants are already without Corey Coleman, who suffered a torn ACL in practice back in July and will not play in 2019.
Shepard caught six passes on seven targets in the Giants’ Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The former second-round pick appeared in all 16 games last year and hauled in 66 passes for 872 yards and four touchdowns.
