Tua Tagovailoa had puzzling quote after Tyreek Hill suffered gruesome knee injury

Tua Tagovailoa did not read the room on Monday after the Miami Dolphins’ game against the New York Jets.

The Pro Bowl quarterback led the Dolphins to their first win of the season over the Jets in a 27-21 contest at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Tagovailoa went 17/25 for 177 yards and a couple of touchdowns in the victory.

The 27-year-old had some fans raise their eyebrows when he gave his postgame interview. Tua started the segment by thanking the heavens for “keeping us safe.”

“All glory belongs to god, my lord and savior, Jesus Christ,” Tua said on the ESPN broadcast. “Just want to thank him for this victory and keeping us safe, for the most part.”

The quote sounded surreal, given that Tyreek Hill did not exactly finish the game safely like Tagovailoa suggested. Hill suffered a gruesome leg injury in the third quarter of the contest that left the Dolphins star’s lower leg bent out of place.

In all fairness to Tagovailoa, he was probably just relieved to get through a full football game without taking another blow to the head. The six-year pro has seen his career defined more by concussions than any success he’s had on the football field thus far.
