Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians announced on Monday that defensive back Tyrann Mathieu suffered a torn ACL on Sunday night and will miss the remainder of the season.
Mathieu tore the ligament after intercepting a pass from Sam Bradford in a 40-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury was of the non-contact variety and did not look good.
Mathieu, who had five interceptions and was having a phenomenal season, sent a tweet after the game asking for God’s help. You can read the tweet and see a video of the play here.
Losing Mathieu at this point in the season is a terrible break for the Cardinals. The former LSU star was having his best season as a pro and was emerging as the anchor of one of the better secondaries in the league. Arizona will certainly miss him down the stretch and into the playoffs.
