Vance Joseph says he was ‘greedy’ on costly field goal decision
Vance Joseph knows he made a bad call before halftime of the Denver Broncos’ 19-17 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Joseph elected to try a 62-yard field goal with 22 seconds left before the half while down 13-10 to the Texans. Brandon McManus missed the kick wide right by a mile, giving the Texans the ball back near midfield with 18 seconds left and two timeouts. Houston completed two passes for 20 yards and kicked a 46-yard field goal to increase their lead to 16-10.
In a game they lost by two points, the three points Joseph gave away to Houston were costly.
Joseph said after the game that he understood his error and attributed it his greediness.
Vance Joseph on the decision to attempt 62-yard FG late in the first half: “At half, that’s totally on me. I”m trying to be greedy get three more points and it cost us three. I get that.”

That’s the kind of bad decision that will likely stick out in John Elway’s mind when he’s considering Joseph’s future. The Broncos are 8-17 under Joseph, who reportedly is on the hot seat.
The Broncos are entering a bye week, which is a popular time for teams to make coaching changes.
