New Seattle Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla is taking aim at the media after drawing criticism for comments he made during his introductory press conference.
Khosla annoyed some Seahawks fans when he admitted that he has been and still is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. That remark went down poorly among some fans, but on Friday, Khosla suggested the media had blown the remark out of proportion.
“Reporters will make every molehill into a mountain just to get column inches to write or video minutes,” Khosla wrote on X. “What’s wrong with admitting my 1976-78 period in Pittsburgh (CMU) got me excited about the NFL? I still watch their games doesn’t mean I won’t unconditionally ALWAYS as owner, want the Seahawks to win and have every edge up, EVERY TIME over every other team!!!! Zero questions!!! At the other end is a set of teams I always want to lose every advantage. But happy to have the sports writer getting more column inches and fill their pages. You are welcome. Apologies in advance for my very transparent style.”
There is no reason to believe Khosla’s allegiances are to anyone other than the Seahawks, especially after he paid over $9.5 billion to buy the franchise this offseason. The comment may have struck a nerve with some, but it likely would have gone away had he just ignored it, especially if the team keeps winning.
Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures and a Sun Microsystems co-founder, previously held a state in the San Francisco 49ers. He will have to sell that as he assumes control of the Seahawks.
