Woody Johnson says he’s ‘very confident’ in coach Todd Bowles
New York Jets coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan retain the confidence of owner Woody Johnson, at least for the moment.
Johnson said Wednesday that, while dissatisfied with the team’s play, he is comfortable with the people in charge.
“We got 10 games to go. I’m very confident with Todd Bowles and Mike,” Johnson told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. “I think we’ve got an excellent team. I really respect Todd, I know he’s doing what he’s going to do. It’s football. He’s a good coach. I have long-term confidence in him and in Mike and in their teams.
“That’s the way I feel. Onward and outward, we’ve had a tough schedule, it’s no excuse. We’ve been in some games. But Monday night was … we gotta be better than that.”
The first step for Bowles appears to be making this change. If things don’t turn around for the Jets by the end of the season, expect Johnson’s patience with him to wear thin.
