Golf Digest certainly knows what demographic it is targeting, and that is the male demo that enjoys attractive, sometimes not fully-clothed women. That’s why they put LPGA star Lexi Thompson on the cover of the May edition of their magazine.
Thompson is pictured half-naked with full cleavage and the sides of her breasts exposed, with nothing but some cloth hanging over her shoulders covering her upper body. It’s hardly G-rated stuff.
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve noticed that this is part of a trend for Golf Digest.
Back in 2013, they put Golf Channel broadcaster Holly Sonders, who happens to be extremely attractive, on the cover. For the Dec. 2013 edition, they had Kate Upton pose alongside Arnold Palmer. And last year, they had Paulina Gretzky, whose only tie to golf was that she was dating Dustin Johnson, pose provocatively for the cover, upsetting many female golfers.
Hopefully these covers are at least selling for Golf Digest and generating subscriptions, otherwise they would be better off sticking with fully-clothed covers.
