Report: Sean Avery has meltdown on off-Broadway set over pizza offer
When Sean Avery was booted from “Dancing With the Stars” after just one week, Martin Brodeur wondered what more the former New York Rangers forward could do to embarrass himself. We may have our answer.
According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Avery had a “meltdown” on the set of his off-Broadway play on Monday. He reportedly quit two days before the play, “Negative is Positive,” is scheduled to open because of a misunderstanding when someone offered him a slice of pizza.
On Monday, Avery left rehearsals early after growing agitated. On Tuesday, Avery’s behavior grew worse. According to Smith-Sloman, when a young assistant stage manager named Natalie asked the athlete-turned-actor if he wanted a slice of pizza, he said no, but somehow thought the assistant had called him an “a–hole.”
“He said I was ‘talking s–t’ and said I was ‘so full of s–t,’” Natalie, who was left in tears, told us. “That’s when I realized that I was dealing with a madman.”
Avery then supposedly went on to snap at director Andreas Robertz and shout, “Don’t you know who I am?!” before storming off. Playwright Christy Smith-Sloman said she does not want Avery back.
“It’s unbelievable he would do this two days before we open,” Smith-Sloman told Page Six. “At this point I don’t want him to be a part of this production. He can’t call people pieces of s— and say, ‘Do you know who I am?’ [He] can’t threaten people.”
There you go, Marty. I think Avery has successfully found a way to embarrass himself further.
