Kirk Herbstreit announces sad personal news
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit shared some sad personal news on Thursday.
Herbstreit announced on X that his beloved dog Ben passed away on Thursday. He wrote that cancer had spread throughout Ben’s organs, and that he and his family had no choice and “had to let him go.”
This is really hard to write but so many of you have loved and cared about Ben that I wanted to let you know. Ben, a golden retriever, became famous among college football fans as a regular road companion of Herbstreit’s. He traveled with Herbstreit for his “College GameDay” duties, as well as Herbstreit’s work as a broadcaster. At times, he could even be occasionally seen in the background in the broadcast booth with Herbstreit and Chris Fowler during live games.
In addition to his ESPN duties, Herbstreit works alongside Al Michaels on Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football.”
