Count ESPN SportsCenter anchors Gary Striewski and Randy Scott among those who are having a little fun with the viral Coldplay “kiss camera” incident in Boston.
On Wednesday, the camera panned the audience and settled on Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his colleague Kristin Cabot, who were briefly seen in an intimate embrace. Almost immediately, the pair separated awkwardly, with Byron ducking down and Cabot turning her back to the camera while covering her face.
The incident sparked affair speculation and resulted in a tidal wave of memes, including the opening to Friday’s SportsCenter.
“It’s time to Kiss It Goodbye. Baseball’s probably not the only thing you could say that about recently,” a voiceover said.
The brief segment was met with a mixed reaction by fans, with some claiming the meme had already been beaten to death and ESPN was late to the party. Others found it fairly amusing.
Striewski and Scott weren’t even the first members of ESPN to poke fun at the incident. Mina Kimes got the jump on Thursday, posting about the viral video on X.
The memes have been hilarious and aren’t slowing down. We’ll give ESPN a pass on their timing because the video isn’t a dead horse just yet.
