Jon Jones does not believe that Henry Cejudo is actually retiring

Jon Jones

Henry Cejudo beat Dominick Cruz in their fight at UFC 249 on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Fla. and then announced his retirement.

The 33-year-old fighter won via TKO to successfully defend his UFC Bantamweight Championship. After the fight, Cejudo said he was done.

“I want to make an announcement … Joe (Rogan), I’m happy with my career. I’ve done enough for the sport. I want to walk away. I’m retiring tonight. I’m 33 years old, I’m happy with my career.”

Cejudo received a congratulatory shoutout from Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Others complimented him as well. But Jon Jones felt differently.

Jones does not believe Cejudo is serious about retiring and instead thinks Triple C is angling for a new contract.

Considering his age and that Cejudo has only had 18 professional MMA fights, Jones’ suspicion could be accurate. We will find out in time whether Cejudo is truly walking away or whether he is making a leverage play for a new deal.
