Rumor: GSP, Anderson Silva fight being discussed
A superfight that many MMA fans were dreaming about years ago may finally be in the works.
During his “Below the Belt with Brendan Schaub” podcast published on Monday, Schaub said there is a rumor about talks existing for a potential Georges St-Pierre-Anderson Silva fight.
“The other rumor going around the water cooler is GSP vs. Anderson Silva at a catch weight,” Schaub said. He says the catch weight being discussed is 180 pounds.
MMA Insider Front Row Brian says GSP is not agreeing to the fight.
I’m hearing UFC wants to put together GSP v Anderson Silva later this year. Anderson wants the fight. He’s willing to do a catch weight of 180 but GSP will not agree to the fight. Why? It’s unclear

The rumor may have something to it, too.
Interesting note to add to this.
As I mentioned last week, during a live @robinblackmma show, Firas Zahabi said if he could choose just one opponent for GSP to face if he only fought one more time, it would be Anderson Silva. https://t.co/kxEgd5LY9v

This was a fight many fans wanted to see years ago when both fighters were at their peaks and considered the best in the sport but GSP felt the weight disparity between them was too much to overcome.
GSP, 37, essentially walked away from the sport after 2013, though he returned to beat Michael Bisping to win the UFC middleweight championship in 2017. Silva, 43, was once viewed as nearly invincible. That changed with a broken leg and two losses to Chris Weidman, as well as two failed PED tests (one was later overturned). He is only 1-4 with a no contest since 2013.
A fight between the two wouldn’t be close to what it could have been 6-7 years ago, but it would still generate plenty of attention and fan interest.
