The Olympics have introduced us to thousands of new athletes across the world, some more interesting than others. Watching Switzerland’s beach volleyball team play over the weekend in Rio — and yes, it is odd for Switzerland to have a beach volleyball team — we saw Anouk Verge-Depre, an Olympian you might want to know about.
Verge-Depre is 24 and she’s a tall one at 6-foot-1 — no surprise for a volleyball player. Verge-Depre teams with Isabelle Forrer, and the two have posted three points to lead Pool C in the preliminary round of the beach volleyball event.
The Bern native has a career earnings total of just over $193,000 in international competition.
