New Manchester United transfer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has never been known for his humility, and it looks like that trend will continue at Old Trafford.
Retired footballer and legendary Red Devil Eric Cantona (known locally by fans as “King Eric”) recently made some remarks directed towards Ibrahimovic, who signed with the team earlier this month, affirming the royal pecking order at United.

“I have a personal message for Zlatan,” Cantona said. “You decided to go red. It is the best choice you ever made…[but] there can only be one king in Manchester. You can be the prince if you want to.”
Ibrahimovic responded to Cantona’s jesting on Monday, indicating that he’s actually setting his sights higher.
“I admire Cantona,” said Ibrahimovic, per Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. “And I heard what he said. But I won’t be king of Manchester. I will be god of Manchester.”
Though the 34-year-old Ibrahimovic has only agreed to a one-year deal with Manchester United, he should have plenty of opportunity to back up his big talk. Ibrahimovic seems set to assume primary striker responsibilities for the team, especially since captain Wayne Rooney has taken on more of a midfield role as he has aged. And with Ibrahimovic’s former boss at Inter Milan, the equally outspoken Jose Mourinho entering his first year as club manager, it should definitely be an intriguing Premier League season for the United side come this August.
