Peyton Manning is honoring his late former teammate Demaryius Thomas in a tremendous way.

The retired Hall of Fame QB Manning announced on Wednesday that he will be launching a new scholarship at Georgia Tech, Thomas’ alma mater, as a tribute to Thomas, who passed away at age 33 last year. The scholarship is being established through Manning’s PeyBack Foundation and will be named the Demaryius A. Thomas Scholarship Endowment.

A news release from Georgia Tech revealed that the scholarship will be for incoming freshman students from Laurens County, Ga., where Thomas was born and raised, with major financial need. Partial and full scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and community service involvement.

Manning and Thomas were teammates on the Denver Broncos for four seasons from 2012 to 2015. That included Denver’s Super Bowl 50 win.

There were some other cool tributes to Thomas after his death in December. This scholarship established by Manning and Georgia Tech will be another great way of honoring Thomas’ memory.

Peyton Manning advising Broncos on how to use Russell Wilson

Peyton Manning still maintains close ties to both of the NFL teams he played for. He’s even using those ties to help one team get the most out of its new quarterback.

Manning said in a new interview that he has been speaking to Russell Wilson to help Wilson in his transition to life with the Denver Broncos. Manning has even been in contact with Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett to give tips on how the coaching staff can help Wilson settle in smoothly.

“I’ve talked to Russell a number of times and we’ve had conversations about some of the things that helped me in my transition to a different team that I think can apply to anybody making the jump, especially after being in a place for a long time,” Manning told Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post. “(I’ve had) conversations with Coach Hackett as well about some of those things, maybe some do’s and don’ts that helped me and can certainly apply and Russell can hit the ground running here in his first year.”

Manning is a great resource for the Broncos, and not just because he was an outstanding quarterback. He was closely associated with the Indianapolis Colts before joining Denver in 2012, so he knows all about the changes Wilson is making.

The Broncos have had a big assist from Manning as it relates to Wilson. The Hall of Famer seemingly played a role in Wilson choosing Denver, too.

Peyton Manning had absolutely hilarious comments on Ray Lewis

Peyton Manning in a suit

Peyton Manning is known for being a good on-air personality and for his sharp sense of humor. But he really showed off those characteristics when talking about Ray Lewis recently.

Manning was a speaker on a panel at hobby event “The Mint Collective” in Las Vegas. His TV production company, Omaha Productions, shared a clip from Manning’s appearance that went viral.

The video clip shows Manning praising Lewis as the best defensive player he ever faced.

“Best player I played against on defense was by far Ray Lewis. When he retired, it was like the greatest day of my life. I sent flowers to his press conference. ‘Don’t come back like Brady,’ you know,” Manning joked.

Manning then proceeded to share what made the former Baltimore Ravens linebacker so good.

“He was so big, strong, smart, instinctive, studied film like a quarterback. Always thought he kind of knew what we were doing, right? I call a lot of plays at the line of scrimmage. Felt like he kind of some of those plays. When he blitzed, it’s like he knew our snap count, he timed it up. Always kind of hit me as he was running downhill. Kind of like he slammed me into the ground. He kind of used me to help him get up. You know, whispering in my ear, ‘I’ll be back in a couple of minutes, punk.’ Really friendly guy.

“He and I are good friends now. But when we were playing, he was not that friendly. Let’s just say that,” Manning said.

Lewis played in the NFL from 1996-2012. He made 12 Pro Bowls, won a Super Bowl and was named AP Defensive Player of the Year twice. He later was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Manning played from 1998-2015, so Lewis was a factor for all but the end of the quarterback’s career. The massive amount of respect Manning has for Lewis is evident. He also shared the stories in a great way with some of those funny lines.

Peyton Manning jabs Tom Brady over brief retirement

Peyton Manning in a suit

Peyton Manning says he sent Tom Brady a heartfelt gift when Brady announced his retirement nearly two months ago, and the Hall of Famer wants it back.

Manning was a guest at an event hosted by The MINT Collective on Saturday. He revealed that he sent Brady a bottle of wine and a nice handwritten note after the seven-time Super Bowl champion said he was retiring. Now that Brady has unretired, Manning expects a refund.

Brady and Manning are always trading funny barbs. In fact, Brady recently compared his retirement 180 to Manning joining a social media site.

Peyton should look at it this way — Brady is going to retire at some point. Even if that isn’t for another two or three years now, Brady already got his gift. Manning’s work is done.

Tom Brady cracks joke about Peyton Manning joining Instagram

Tom Brady after a game

Peyton Manning joined Instagram on Thursday, and Tom Brady could not let that go without a joke.

The Denver Broncos shared a video confirming that Manning had an authentic Instagram account. That prompted Brady to jokingly contrast what he did when he got bored with Manning’s course of action.

Brady’s social media team is all over Instagram. They use the platform to send self-deprecating messages and troll rival fans regularly, so he could probably give Manning some social media tips.

Based on what we’ve heard from Eli Manning, Peyton may be a man of few words on social media.

Matt Ryan shares awesome Peyton Manning story

Peyton Manning in a suit

Matt Ryan was officially introduced as the new quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. He was, of course, asked some questions about Peyton Manning, and Ryan shared a great story about one of his past interactions with the Hall of Famer.

Ryan said Manning has been a great mentor for him and that he is honored to follow in his footsteps. He also revealed that Peyton was one of the first people to call him after the Atlanta Falcons punched their ticket to the Super Bowl in 2016. Ryan was out celebrating with his teammates, but Manning wanted to get to work.

Manning is a football junkie, and that was the year after he retired. He was probably itching to be a part of Super Bowl preparation any way he could. He may have been even more excited since the Falcons were getting ready to play the New England Patriots and Manning’s longtime rival, Tom Brady.

Ryan will have a great opportunity to contend with the Colts next season. Manning is still close with many members of the organization, so he should continue to be a great resource for Ryan.

Report: Russell Wilson spoke to Peyton Manning before trade

Russell Wilson in Seahawks gear

Russell Wilson did a lot of research on what his preferred destination would be before he was ultimately traded to the Denver Broncos. That research apparently included speaking to one legendary quarterback.

Wilson reached out to Peyton Manning before being traded to Denver to discuss what it was like playing for the Broncos, according to James Palmer of NFL Network. Wilson and Manning had multiple conversations about both the city and the organization.

Whatever Manning said clearly worked, as Wilson ultimately accepted a trade to Denver. The former Seahawk apparently had other options, but fixated on the Broncos first and foremost.

Interestingly, Manning has at times been rumored to be eyeing an ownership stake in the Broncos. Maybe the two will be paired together more professionally in the future, but for now, it seems the Broncos owe Manning a tip of the cap for their new quarterback.

Cooper Kupp’s funny Peyton Manning story goes viral

Peyton Manning

Cooper Kupp may have turned down years of valuable advice from Peyton Manning, but the Los Angeles Rams star had no idea he was doing it.

In a recent Twitter Spaces, Kupp shared an awesome story about some interactions he had — or should have had, but didn’t — with Manning. Kupp said he accidentally ignored Manning’s text messages for years, starting when the Hall of Famer texted him a photo of Kupp and Manning together at Manning’s passing camp.

“I got a message from a random number with a picture of him and I was back at the Manning Passing Academy,” Kupp said at the time, via the NFL’s official Instagram account. “And I was like, ‘That’s so weird. Who would have this picture?’”

Manning would have the picture, that’s who. Kupp said he realized after a while that all the texts he received were from the same “random number” and coincided with events where he had seen Peyton.

“I look back through the messages and they all line up with certain events where we’d seen each other,” Kupp said. “So I think I’ve been ghosting Peyton Manning for my entire NFL career.”

Kupp commented “My bad Peyton!” on the Instagram post sharing his story.

Perhaps it wasn’t all Manning’s fault. Eli Manning recently revealed that Peyton has some extremely unusual texting habits, so it’s possible Kupp experienced some of that. Whatever the case, the Super Bowl MVP probably wishes he put everything together sooner.

Eli Manning divulges Peyton’s odd texting habits

Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning may have his own NFL telecast and production company, but the Hall of Famer has never seemed like someone who is big on technology. According to his brother Eli, texting with Peyton can be a real chore.

Eli discussed Peyton’s texting habits during a recent appearance on the “Great Dane Nation” podcast with former NFL kicker Morten Anderson. He said his and Peyton’s father, Archie, “texts more than a 13-year-old girl” and needs to be told to put his phone down at the dinner table sometimes. Anderson then pointed out that he often just gets an emoji back when he texts Peyton. Eli said that is his older brother’s style with everyone.

“Same here. I’m not even asking him a question, or I am asking him a question — and I need a yes or no, or to know what time he’s getting in tomorrow — I just get like the ‘ok’ emoji,” Eli said, as transcribed by Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post. “I don’t know what that means.”

If Peyton has a lot to say, Eli said he will do so using a voice memo rather than typing it out.

“And now, if he has something to say — if it’s too long to text and he actually has to use words or write a sentence — he doesn’t text that anymore,” Eli added. “He leaves a voice memo. So he texts you what he wants to say, but he doesn’t actually have a conversation.”

Whether he’s using a voice memo to text or dropping an S-bomb on a hot microphone, Peyton definitely gives off the impression that technology is not an area of expertise for him.

Peyton Manning shares nice tribute to Tom Brady after retirement

Peyton Manning

Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, and one of the quarterback’s biggest rivals wasted no time congratulating Brady on his remarkable career.

Peyton Manning was one of the first to pay tribute to Brady. The Hall of Famer issued a statement praising Brady for his remarkable play on the field and for being a great friend off of it.

Brady and Manning were the faces of the NFL and rivals on the field for over a decade. They met regularly during the postseason and prevented one another from reaching the Super Bowl on multiple occasions. Because of that, many have assumed that there is tension between the two, but that has never been the case.

Manning was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, and Brady was in Canton to support him. Manning even cracked a great joke about Brady during his speech. The two will always be interlinked and will likely work together in some capacity in the future.
