Darrelle Revis doubts if Jets have given Mark Sanchez enough surrounding talent

August 23, 2012 by Steve DelVecchio • Comments

It was no secret that locker room issues played a significantly role in the Jets’ poor season last year, so the last thing they need is a confidence problem heading into 2012. From the sound of it, they may already have one. While Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow have had nothing but positive things to say about the new offense Tony Sparano is incorporating, the guys on the other side of the ball don’t seem so sure.

In order for Sanchez to finally hit his stride and become a top-10 quarterback, the offense is going to have to click in a hurry. Just a couple of weeks before the start of the regular season, Darrelle Revis is wondering if the Jets have given Sanchez enough surrounding talent.

“You’ve got to do what’s best for the team, and I don’t know if we’ve been wise in that department,” Revis told Newsday on Wednesday.

When asked specifically if he believes it is possible for Sanchez to develop into one of the better quarterbacks in the league, Revis certainly didn’t sound confident.

“I don’t know,” he reportedly said while shaking his head. “I don’t know.”

Does that sound like a man who is impressed with the super secretive Wildcat formation the Jets have been practicing throughout training camp? Either Revis is simply adding to the smokescreen, or he is not expecting big things from his offense this season. Two-quarterback systems rarely work at the NFL level, so if New York is planning on using both Tebow and Sanchez the odds are stacked against them. Either they’re going to prove us all wrong, or another rough season could be on the horizon.
