Female Pitcher Marti Sementelli Earns Scholarship to Montreat College

The last time we heard about Marti Sementelli, it was March and she was part of a spectacular feat. Sementelli, a senior pitcher at Birmingham High School in Lake Balboa, California, was opposed by another female pitcher, Ghazaleh Sailors of San Marcos High in Santa Barbara. Sementelli’s team got the edge that day winning 6-1, and now she’s making waves for another accomplishment.

Sementelli has earned an academic/athletic scholarship to play baseball for Montreat College, an NAIA school in North Carolina.

Sementelli was interested in playing ball in North Carolina after pitching for USA’s women’s baseball team which was based there. She contacted five schools and received interest from three of them. Sementelli will likely start off on the freshman-sophomore developmental team according to Montreat’s coach, which should give her the chance to hone her game. Currently she throws a two-seam fastball, changeup, slider, cut fastball and palm ball, according to Max Preps.

As amazing as Sementelli’s accomplishment is, Justine Siegal, founder of Baseball For All, says she can recall two other females who have played college baseball, so this isn’t groundbreaking. Nevertheless, it’s still extremely impressive for Marti to compete at a fairly high level and have success.

Of course you’re probably wondering what Sementelli looks like as a pitcher, so here’s a highlight video:
