Hawk Harrelson is widely despised among non-White Sox fans for his over-the-top homer calls for the White Sox on TV. Even though we’re fully prepared to hear nothing but a biased perspective from Hawk, he still manages to stun us with his sports talk radio caller-like meltdowns on a regular basis.
Take for example what happened on Wednesday. Sox pitcher Jose Quintana threw behind Ben Zobrist in the fourth inning, likely as retaliation for A.J. Pierzynski being hit the day before. The prompt ejection led to Hawk flipping out in epic form.
“What are you doing, Wegner?” Hawk yelled. “You’ve got to be kidding me! That is so bad, that is absolutely brutal! That is unbelievable! I’ll tell you what, they have got to start making guys be accountable. That is totally absurd. That just tells you he has — here’s an umpire in the American League knows nothing about the game of baseball!”
That was a pretty solid meltdown from Hawk. Hey, at least it’s better than making up cheating accusations about opposing players.
