Cam Newton suffered fractures in back during car accident

Cam-Newton

Cam Newton suffered two fractures in his back when he got into a frightening car accident on Tuesday, according to the Carolina Panthers.

Newton’s truck flipped on the freeway near Bank of America Stadium shortly after noon. He was conscious and communicating with officers at the scene, but he was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. While it initially appeared that Newton avoided any type of serious injury, further testing revealed that he has two transverse process fractures in his lower back.

You can see some photos and videos from the scene of the accident here.

The injury Newton suffered is the same one that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been dealing with. Romo missed one game after suffering the injury but has been able to play through it for the most part.

Newton’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is unknown.
