Carson Palmer: Crotch chop was directed at my friends

Carson Palmer crotch chop

Carson Palmer may wind up getting fined for an inappropriate gesture he made on the sideline during his team’s win over the Seahawks Sunday night, but the Cardinals quarterback insists he was not taunting the fans in Seattle.

After Andre Ellington scored a game-sealing touchdown in the fourth quarter, Palmer was shown on the sideline giving some massive fist pumps and a crotch chop (video here). But on Thursday, he told ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss that the gesture was directed at some of his friends.

“I had my buddies in the sideline, right four or five rows up,” Palmer said. “I saw them pretty excited and [that] got me excited to see them excited.”

Palmer’s brother, Jordan, said Carson would never taunt opposing fans like that.

“The last thing Carson Palmer would ever do was taunt an opposing fan,” Jordan said. “It’s a joke.”

We have no way of knowing if Palmer is telling the truth, but that’s not a bad explanation. Time will tell if it helps him avoid a fine.
