DirecTV reportedly offering Sunday Ticket refunds to protest complainers

DirecTV is prepared to offer refunds to Sunday Ticket subscribers who complain about the national anthem protests in the NFL, according to a report.

During Sunday’s slate of NFL games, we saw some players go down on one knee during the playing of the national anthem, and entire teams not come out on the field until the anthem had been completed. It was an emotional day around the league as players protested racial injustice and showed unity in response to comments made by Donald Trump.

The actions of the players angered many and apparently led to some calling DirecTV and cancelling their subscriptions to the popular Sunday Ticket package. According to the Wall Street Journal, the provider granted some refunds to customers who stated the reason for cancellation was this past weekend’s protests. The Journal also added there have been cancellations of RedZone channel as well.

LBS reached out to DirecTV and was told by a customer service representative that they will evaluate cancellations on a case-by-case basis for potential credits back to customers who cancel Sunday Ticket.

As a result of NFL player protests, some have decided to boycott and not watch games anymore. Now, we are seeing customers cancel their NFL-related television packages. What’s next remains to be seen, but one thing we do know is nearly everyone has an opinion, whether it is positive or negative.

While last weekend was certainly one few players and fans of the NFL will forget anytime soon, it will also likely not be the last time we widespread protests across the league. That means DirecTV can surely expect calls from unhappy customers to continue.
