Giants believe Jason Pierre-Paul might not be able to play this year
How’s that for a turn of events?
The New York Giants finally got a chance to examine Jason Pierre-Paul last week after he spent the better part of two months avoiding the team following surgery on his hand for a July 4th fireworks accident. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that Pierre-Paul’s hand is in worse condition than the team was led to believe, and that they feel he might not be able to play at all this season.
We knew that Pierre-Paul had his right index finger amputated and that he was recovering from a fractured thumb. But Graziano reports that JPP also has part of another finger missing.
The Giants have no idea when their start pass rusher will be ready to play. The two sides parted ways last week without Pierre-Paul signing his franchise tender because he was not ready to play. He was set to return to Florida to train and rehab for the season.
The Giants can always put JPP on the non-football injury list and not have to pay him, but then he would not be allowed to play all season. Instead, it seems they are content waiting until he is ready to play, and they will have him sign his tender then. He would then be paid a prorated portion of his $14.8 million franchise tender.
