Jamaal Charles leaves playoff game with possible concussion
Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles left Sunday’s opening-round playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts with an apparent head injury early in the first quarter. Charles appeared to slam the back of his head into the turf on a run during Kansas City’s first drive.
Charles, who has accounted for more than 30% of the Chiefs offense this season, had to be helped off the field. He seemed woozy and was evaluated by a team trainer on the sideline for a few minutes. A trainer then took his helmet away and Charles was escorted to the locker room, presumably for further concussion testing. He looked visibly disappointed.
Charles is obviously the one player the Chiefs can ill afford to lose. He is a legitimate MVP candidate, having totaled 1,980 total yards from scrimmage this season despite missing a game. If he is unable to return, Kansas City would have to make some major adjustments.
