John Fox, Broncos parting ways

John-Fox

John Fox and the Denver Broncos have agreed to part ways, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.

Glazer first reported on Sunday that there was a legitimate chance Fox could become available if the Broncos lost to the Indianapolis Colts and were eliminated from the playoffs. While many took that to mean the Broncos were considering firing Fox, it seems more likely that it was Fox’s decision to leave.

This obviously raises a ton of questions for a Broncos team that is already littered with them. Is Peyton Manning planning to retire? Will Denver be able to re-sign DeMarius Thomas and/or Julius Thomas? Are Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase or defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio the best candidates to take over for Fox?

Much of this will not be answered until later in the offseason. What we know right now is that Manning was dealing with a seemingly significant leg injury over the final month of the season. We also know that he turns 39 in March. If Manning assured Fox that he was going to return in 2015 and felt he could come back much stronger, would Fox have made such an abrupt decision to leave?

With the way Manning was throwing the ball on Sunday, it’s no surprise the internet erupted with these hilarious memes.

If Manning does return for another year, Peter King wonders if the Broncos could consider bringing back Mike Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls with Denver as a head coach in the 1990s. Shanahan has long been an admirer of Manning’s and would have loved to have signed him when he was coaching the Washington Redskins two years ago.

The Broncos will clearly be the most intriguing team to watch as the offseason moves forward.
