Justin Forsett outplays Bernard Pierce in Ravens debut

September 8, 2014 by Steve DelVecchio • Comments

Justin Forsett had a strong game in his Baltimore Ravens debut even though the team lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 23-16 on Sunday in Week 1.

Forsett, a veteran in his seventh NFL season, rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. He also had 14 receiving yards on five receptions.

Forsett is an undersized back who saw over 150 touches each of his first two seasons in the league with the Seattle Seahawks. He’s only had limited action his past three seasons spent with Seattle, Houston and Jacksonville.

Forsett is not the kind of back who will carry the full load for a team, but he is shifty and more of a change-of-pace guy who can give you about 15 touches a game.

Bernard Pierce, who was drafted in the third round in 2012, only had 14 yards on 6 carries and was benched for fumbling. He has a career average of 3.7 yards per carry, which is much inferior to Forsett’s career 4.9 average. Lorenzo Taliaferro, a rookie fourth-round pick from Coastal Carolina, did not see any carries but had one catch.
