Marvin Jones will reportedly sign with Lions

Marvin Jones BengalsThe Detroit Lions wasted no time bolstering their receiving corps in the wake of Calvin Johnson’s retirement announcement, as one of the top free agents on the market is set to sign with the team.

Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that Marvin Jones is has agreed to sign with the Lions. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Jones will get roughly $8 million per year from his new team.

Jones caught 65 passes for 816 yards — both career highs — and four touchdowns with the Cincinnati Bengals last season. The 25-year-old was the second option in the passing game behind A.J. Green, so it will be interesting to see how he handles being the top guy in Detroit.

Jones was arguably the best free agent receiver available after the Chicago Bears used the franchise tag on Alshon Jeffery. He won’t replace Megatron, but his signing is a step in the right direction for Detroit.
