Ravens booed loudly by fans for kneeling before national anthem

Baltimore Ravens players kneeled before the national anthem on Sunday in a show of solidarity and prayer. Although they stood once the anthem began, the players were still booed loudly by fans.

The PA announcer at M&T Bank Stadium asked fans to join the Ravens in a moment of prayer before the anthem was played to “embrace kindness, unity, equality and justice for all Americans.” Fans cheered the announcement, but they immediately began booing loudly when several players took a knee.

Fans probably assumed the Ravens were kneeling for the anthem, but they didn’t. While it’s obvious many people have been upset over the national anthem protests, you would hope players wouldn’t be booed just for dropping to a knee in prayer.

The Ravens have been a big part of the anthem story, as their national anthem singer resigned last week amid all of the talk about protests. A petition has also been started to remove the statue of Ray Lewis from outside M&T Bank Stadium because of his involvement with the protests.
