Wayne Gretzky selling Lake Sherwood mansion for $10.5 million

Wayne Gretzky mansion

Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet have been busy making all kinds of real estate moves in Southern California, and it looks like they are ready to unload their latest property.

According to The Real Estalker, the Gretzkys have listed one of their mansions in the exclusive Lake Sherwood area of Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks for $10.5 million. This is a different listing from the Lake Sherwood mansion they sold to Lenny Dykstra for $18.5 million in 2007. The couple also reportedly has a four bedroom, four bathroom place in Lake Sherwood listed for $1.899 million.

The current home listed for $10.5 million has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and is 8,711 square feet. It’s been on the market since Jan. 10 and the price has remained unchanged. It appears that the Gretzkys originally purchased the home for $2.765 million in Nov. 2009 and made significant additions/upgrades. We can confirm they applied for a permit in 2012 to add a swimming pool and spa to the home.

Here’s what is said about the home on Redfin:

Some estates are so exceptional that it merely leaves you breathless from the very first footstep of the front door. 129 Hampstead Court is that property. Each and every square inch of the interiors were composed with architectural integrity and refinement, passion and emotion. Rare is a home built with such consideration. Interplay of decadent textures and clean lines are highlighted by natural light that beams through high soaring windows and doors. The exterior is a personal oasis, reflecting the architectural brilliance of the interiors. This residence distinguishes itself as unparalleled in terms of quality, privacy, luxury and chic sophistication.

Sounds like a place where you’d love to live, right? Below are some more pictures of the beautiful home:

Lane Kiffin lists Manhattan Beach mansion for sale for $7 million

Lane Kiffin mansion

Lane Kiffin is officially moving on from Southern California.

Lane and his wife, Layla, have listed their Manhattan Beach mansion on sale for $6.995 million.

Kiffin was fired by USC in late September after a loss at Arizona State, but don’t feel too badly for him — he bought the home for $5.5 million last year, so his family stands to make some money off the deal.

There was some confusion over whether Kiffin would owe USC money for the home because the school loaned him $500k for the purchase last year. Some said that story was overblown and not an issue.

Kiffin’s home is 7,308 square feet and has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Most of it is unused considering up until being fired, Lane used to sleep in his office most of the week.

You can read the full summary of the listing below and see some more photos:

Robert Griffin III buys $2.5 million home in Virginia

Robert Griffin III expects to be the quarterback of the Washington Redskins for many years to come. There are legitimate concerns about his ability to stay healthy, but RG3 signed a a four-year, $21 million rookie contract last year that is fully guaranteed. It’s safe to say the man can afford a nice home.

According to the Washington Business Journal, the 23-year-old went out and bought himself one. Griffin has reportedly purchased a $2.5 million luxury home in the prestigious Creighton Farms golf course community, which is home to one of Jack Nicklaus’ courses. The property was recently appraised at $1.8 million, so RG3 must have really liked it.

The home was built in 2010 and includes just under 9,000 square feet with five bathrooms, six bathrooms, a wet bar and an elevator. Not bad for a starter home. Here are some more photos of RG3’s new house from Zillow.com:

Alex Rodriguez reportedly profits $15 million with sale of Miami Beach house

Alex Rodriguez is apparently not anticipating that he will be traded to the Miami Marlins at any point in the near future. If that does happen, the injured superstar will have to purchase another home in Miami Beach.

According to TMZ, Rodriguez has accepted a $30 million offer on his 19,861 square-foot Miami Beach estate. A-Rod reportedly purchased the home in 2010 for $7.4 million and put another $7.6 million in work into it, meaning he stands to pocket about $15 million in the sale.

The estate, which is on the same street where actor Matt Damon owns a home, has nine bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a four-car garage. A-Rod was asking $38 million for the property when he first listed it in 2012, but has apparently realized this is more of a $30 million market. More photos of the mansion can be seen here.

The real question is did A-Rod use some of that money to purchase incriminating records and destroy them? Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

John Smoltz has the most incredible backyard you will see (Video)

John Smoltz has the most incredible backyard I have ever seen. The former Atlanta Braves Cy Young Award-winning pitcher lives in a multi-million dollar mansion in Milton, Ga., and he turned his backyard into an amazing sports complex.

Smoltz showed off his backyard in an episode of HGTV’s “Million Dollar Rooms” that aired recently (h/t Cosby Sweaters). The mansion is over 18,000 square feet, has 10 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, spans 22 acres, and is home to Smoltz, his wife, and their six children.

Smoltz did much of the work creating the yard and estimates he spent over $2 million and thousands of hours of labor on it. He says he has a full-time landscaper and that it takes seven hours to cut all the grass.

Here’s what the yard contains:

    - 9-hole golf course (according to Smoltz; listings say 18 holes)
    – putting green that has lights to practice at night
    – baseball field with splash zone beyond left field
    – fishing pond
    – tennis court
    – volleyball court
    – full basketball court
    – football/soccer field

Other cool details: The golf course has a watering system featuring 38 different zones and is irrigated through the pond. The baseball field is made of synthetic turf. Smoltz says many teams have gone there to work out when their fields were in poor condition.

“This is a lot,” says Smoltz, “but it’s so much fun.”

The backyard is not the only amazing part of the mansion. Not only does it include a theater, bar, eight-car garage and fitness room, but the whole bottom floor is a museum-like trophy area.

The floor features newspapers, jerseys, gear, and other memorabilia in well-lit cases. Smoltz’s memorabilia includes his Cy Young Award trophy, a replica World Series trophy from the Braves’ 1995 win, and a torch Muhammad Ali carried for the Atlanta Olympics.

The estate was actually for sale last January and listed for $7.2 million. It’s unclear whether Smoltz is still looking to sell, but the listing on the often outdated site Realtor.com says the property is still active. You have to wonder why Smoltz would be selling something he put so much time and effort into perfecting.

In case you can’t sit through the entire video, below are some shots of the yard:
