Richard Gasquet threw up after winning an exhausting 38-shot point (Video)

Richard Gasquet and Grigor Dimitrov played an epic point on Thursday at the French Open that left one of them cramping and the other vomiting from exhaustion.

Dimitrov was facing set point down 30-40 and 4-5 in the second set of their second-round match. Serving to Gasquet, Dimitrov was in control for most of the 38-shot point after forcing Gasquet into the corners. But Gasquet pounced on a short ball from Dimitrov and slammed an overhead to finally win the point and second set. He immediately vomited while Dimitrov went down in agony with cramps.

Gasquet says he threw up a banana, while the cramps affected Dimitrov to the point where he lost the next two sets and the match 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

“The banana is still on Suzanne Lenglen (court),” said Gasquet. “I was really feeling bad. But he was on the ground. He was even in a worse situation than I was.”

Yes he was. Fantastic effort from both men. There aren’t many other sports that require better conditioning than tennis where men regularly play three-hour long matches in grand slams.
