Astros manager gives ominous update about George Springer injury

Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch gave an ominous update on the status of George Springer after the outfielder exited Friday’s 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox prematurely.

Springer left the game in the eighth inning after getting hurt trying to make a sliding catch on a Mookie Betts single. He was grabbing at his hamstring after the play, which is what the injury turned out to be.

Hinch said after the game that Springer was likely headed to the injured list, and more worrisome is that he said the injury did not look good and he was not looking forward to hearing the diagnosis.

Springer, 29, has been dealing with a back injury that caused him to miss four games recently. This was his second game back after missing time due to his back.

He entered Friday’s game batting .313/.396/.654 and has absolutely crushed the ball with 17 home runs this season.

Houston has Tony Kemp and Jake Marisnick as their other outfielders who can fill in. They may also look to the minor leagues, where Kyle Tucker has been crushing the ball, for a potential replacement.
