Mark Trumbo seems to be a forgotten man these days, but he is hoping that he still has something left to offer in this final year of his contract.
Speaking with reporters on Thursday, the injured Baltimore Orioles slugger said that he was targeting a return date of September and felt that he owed it to the team to play, per Dan Connolly of The Athletic. He did admit though that his future beyond this year is uncertain and all dependent on his health.
Trumbo said he is now targeting to play September. Won’t try games until maybe a rehab in late August. Said his motivation is he is “paid to play.” And he feels he owes that to the team. Said he felt better in the field but just doesn’t have it right now to be a full contributor

Trumbo said if he can return in September and get some key hits pain-free, he may consider trying to play next year. But it all depends on how his health is. And whether he can show enough for a team to want him in 2020. So his baseball future remains in the air.

Trumbo, a two-time All-Star who hit 47 home runs in 2016, has missed the entire season thus far due to complications from right knee surgery. The knee issue combined with a quadriceps issue also limited him to 90 games in 2018.
A return in the final month of the season wouldn’t really help the 36-71 O’s, but some Trumbo moonshots might be more more entertaining than the team’s other shenanigans of late.
