The Cincinnati Reds have acquired a former two-time World Series champion from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Reds and Dodgers agreed to a trade on Monday that sends infielder Gavin Lux to Cincinnati. The Dodgers are receiving a Competitive Balance Round A pick (around No. 37) and prospect Mike Sirota as part of the deal.

Lux became available on the trade market after the Dodgers signed Korean star Hye-Seong Kim. The Dodgers initially said they had plans to play both Mookie Betts and Lux in the infield, while having Kim in a utility role. However, teams likely put it together that Lux would be available and started calling the Dodgers, with the Reds winning the bidding for the 27-year-old.

Lux made his Dodgers debut in 2019 and played in 23 games as a September call-up. He played 19 games the following season before settling into more of a full-time role in 2021. Lux has batted .252 with a .709 OPS over his MLB career. Baseball-Reference credited him with a 2.1 WAR in 2024 and 2.8 WAR in 2022.

As for what the Dodgers are receiving, Sirota was a third-round pick by the Reds in 2024. The Dodgers drafted him in the 16th round in 2021 out of high school, but he chose to attend Northeastern for college instead. The Dodgers still are obviously big fans of the 21-year-old, who hit for power in college while playing shortstop. In three seasons at Northeastern, Sirota slugged 29 home runs, including 18 in 55 games in 2023.
