Reporter cracked funny Jacob deGrom joke to Yankees manager
One brave member of the media decided to shoot their shot on Sunday regarding the uncertain future of New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom.
After a scheduled game between the Mets and the New York Yankees had to be postponed due to rain (one that deGrom was supposed to start), a reporter cracked a hilarious joke about the All-Star righty to Yankees manager Aaron Boone. The reporter asked Boone if the Yankees were happy to miss deGrom and then asked if Boone would start him during next month’s makeup game, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic. Boone replied simply by laughing.
Aaron Boone was asked if he's glad they missed deGrom. Then he was asked if he'll start deGrom against the Mets when this game is made up next month.

The implication here is that deGrom, whose agent has said that he would like to be traded if the Mets are not interested in signing him to a long-term deal, could be on a different team by the Jul. 31 trade deadline. The Yankees are among those who have been speculated as potentially being that team.
The two crosstown rivals were recently said to be discussing starting pitching as well, so there’s enough smoke here with deGrom and the Yankees that the reporter’s joke was able to hit the mark.
