Aaron Boone offered a candid assessment of Jazz Chisholm Jr. that captured both the second baseman’s potential and the higher standard expected of him, even as Chisholm delivered in a critical moment.
In the Yankees’ 5-3 comeback victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday night, Chisholm blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning off Matt Krook, erasing a 3-2 deficit after Jasson Dominguez singled ahead of his at-bat.
Two batters later, Austin Wells followed with a solo shot for insurance in the dramatic win.
Boone’s postgame comments highlighted Chisholm’s impact while pushing for more consistency.
“He’s such a dynamic player, and I feel like he got off to a tough start in April,” Boone said, via the New York Post. “Since then, he’s been fine, but Jazz shouldn’t be fine. He’s better than that. So hopefully he’s setting himself up for a really good second half because when he gets it going, he’s one of those guys that changes a game in a lot of ways and even can carry teams at certain stretches. Good to see a big swing in a big spot.”
The homer underscored Boone’s point about Chisholm’s ability to thrive in high-leverage situations.
Chisholm’s performance, paired with his recent leadership in the clubhouse, continues to fuel discussions about his value as the Yankees seek to build momentum.
