Report: Yankees looking to trade Ivan Nova
After giving Aroldis Chapman his pink slip out of New York, the Yankees appear to have a new trade victim in mind.
According to a report by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News on Monday, the Yankees have turned their attention towards moving right-hander Ivan Nova. Feinsand also notes that the Miami Marlins have expressed interest in the 29-year-old.
Like Chapman, who was traded on Monday to the Chicago Cubs, Nova will be a free agent after the season. He has gone 7-5 with a 4.65 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts in 14 starts this year.
Though he won 16 games in 2011, Nova hasn’t developed into much more than a fringe starter since. Still, he appears to fit the depth piece mold that the Marlins have been targeting recently.
A decent arm with some upside who is also capable of pitching out of the bullpen, Nova should attract a solid amount of other interest on the trade market as well. The Yankees are smart to see what they might be able to get for a guy who could just leave for nothing at the end of the year.
