Report: Becky Hammon interested in Knicks job if offered long-term deal

Becky Hammon

David Fizdale’s successor as head coach of the New York Knicks might just be a historic one.

Jabari Young of CNBC reported this week that San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon would be interested in the Knicks job if offered a long-term deal, believed to be in the range of four to five years.

The 4-18 Knicks relieved Fizdale of his head coaching duties on Friday after just over one full season in charge. Hammon, meanwhile, has served on the San Antonio Spurs staff under Gregg Popovich since 2014 following an illustrious WNBA career.

The 42-year-old would be breaking new ground as the first female head coach in NBA history, a distinction that she came close to earning last year.
