Carmelo Anthony unsure why he wasn’t traded to Rockets after ‘deal was done’
The Houston Rockets seemed like the most likely trade destination for Carmelo Anthony for a long time, but ultimately they were unable to agree on a compensation package for with the New York Knicks.
Or were they?
Anthony made an interesting revelation in an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio this week when he claimed a deal to send him to Houston was “done” in July, but for some reason was never finalized.
Carmelo Anthony tells @SiriusXMNBA that "a deal was done with Houston" in early July but that for "some reason…it didn't go through."

Houston had to give up some assets to acquire Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers, so the assumption all along was that a third or fourth team would need to be involved in order for the Rockets to satisfy the Knicks’ demands. Anthony’s comments seem to indicate both sides settled on a deal that they deemed fair, but something obviously fell through.
Just when it started to seem like Carmelo may be headed for another season of losing in New York, he expanded his wish list of teams and ended up with a contender. Time will tell if the Rockets come to regret not pushing harder to complete a deal.
