Dillon Brooks gets technical foul for kicking opponent

Dillon Brooks’ transformation into Draymond Green is just about complete.

The Houston Rockets swingman Brooks got hit with a technical foul on Wednesday for a questionable moment during his team’s game against the Utah Jazz. In the first quarter, Brooks was attempting to shoot the ball when Jazz guard Collin Sexton knocked it away.

As a result, Brooks flailed his limbs and ended up kicking Sexton in the midsection area. Here is the video.

The referees, who had initially ruled the play as a kicked-ball turnover, went to the monitor to review for a hostile act and ended up issuing the technical to Brooks. That was ultimately a very costly technical for Brooks too as it gave him 16 on the season. Thus, Brooks will now automatically be suspended for Houston’s next game (Friday against the Oklahoma City Thunder).

Brooks is having a strong individual season for Houston, averaging 13.9 points per game on 39.5 percent shooting from deep to go along with his stellar defense. But Brooks’ inability to control himself could prove to be a problem in the playoffs for the Rockets, who are currently No. 2 in the West at 49-27.

The 29-year-old Brooks can be an asset with his antics, particularly when it comes to irritating some of the game’s top stars. But he has also gotten himself into trouble with his behavior in postseasons past and will have to conduct himself better if he doesn’t want to be a liability down the stretch for Houston.
