The Golden State Warriors may get the first real crack at a free agency pitch to LeBron James, based on his rumored hangout schedule.
LeBron James is reportedly “spending some time” with Warriors star Draymond Green this week. According to ESPN reporter Shams Charania, the two are set to rendezvous at “an undisclosed location.” Charania seemed to know the exact setting of the meetup, but appeared hesitant to divulge such information to the public.
A meet-up between the two has been quite common in recent years. James and Green went from bitter rivals a decade ago to close friends who now spend time with one another off the court. James was even invited to Green’s wedding.
But with James’ free agency being the talk of the offseason, it’s hard to imagine Green not using the opportunity to pitch the 4-time MVP on the idea of teaming up with Steph Curry in the Bay Area.
The meetup could potentially be a huge jolt for the Warriors’ chances to recruit LeBron, considering reports indicated that he would not be allowing teams to pitch to him. He has instead opted to delegate any dealings to longtime agent Rich Paul. Close friends such as Green appear to be an exception to James’ no-pitch rule.
Reports surfaced earlier this week that James was not seriously entertaining the idea of joining the Warriors and was only using the team as leverage. A recent photo of James has some believing a third and final stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers may be the most likely outcome.
