Report: Steve Nash recruiting one of his old teammates to Nets
Steve Nash may be trying to kick it back to an era when he had longer hair and a quicker crossover.
In a post to his Substack page on Sunday, veteran NBA writer Marc Stein reported that the Brooklyn Nets head coach Nash has been the team’s lead recruiter as they try to lure veteran guard Goran Dragic. Stein adds that Nash has delivered key pieces of the Nets’ pitch to Dragic.
Nash and Dragic used to be teammates on the Phoenix Suns with the Nash serving as a mentor figure to Dragic during Dragic’s first several seasons in the NBA. The two played together from 2008 until Dragic was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2011. Dragic then returned to play for the Suns from 2012 to 2015, albeit after Nash had already left.
At the moment, Patty Mills and Jevon Carter are the only true point guards Brooklyn has available when Kyrie Irving is ineligible. The newly-acquired Ben Simmons will provide a boost at some point, but his return timetable is still up in the air. The former All-Star Dragic could certainly offer a helping hand to the Nets, but his services are plenty in demand right now. In fact, a team with a much better record than the Nets has already come knocking.
