Top QB recruit Elijah Haven announces his college decision

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Elijah Haven, the top quarterback recruit in the 2027 class, announced his college decision on Saturday.

Haven, a 17-year-old quarterback for The Dunham School in St. George, La., announced that he will commit to Alabama. The Crimson Tide beat out the Georgia Bulldogs for the five-star quarterback.

— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) April 25, 2026

Haven credited Kalen DeBoer’s history of quarterback development as a key reason for his decision, and said Alabama checked all the boxes for what he was looking for.

“Coach DeBoer is a great guy and an amazing coach,” Haven told Sam Spiegelman of Rivals. “He produces at the QB level and he’s done a great job of that. With Ty (Simpson) this year, they did a helluva job this season. Coach DeBoer is the leading factor of that, and that definitely is reassuring to have a head coach in that position and also to be able to lead the quarterbacks in that way.”

Haven, regarded as a top-five national prospect, established himself as the top quarterback in the class with his combination of size and skill. The 6-foot-5, 215 pound quarterback has drawn comparisons to Cam Newton during his high school career, and threw for 3,909 yards and 62 touchdowns with seven interceptions as a junior last season. He also ran for 832 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The reigning Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year is set to be a high school senior this year. He will start at Alabama in 2027.

Lu Dort accused of dirty play against Devin Booker

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Lu Dort is facing accusations of dirty play after a collision with Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

Booker was hobbled during the third quarter of Saturday’s Western Conference first round series between the Suns and Thunder. Booker was trying to execute a backdoor cut when he tripped and fell, grabbing his ankle.

Replays showed that Booker tripped over Dort’s right foot, an act that some fans thought was intentional and dirty.

— PHNX Suns (@PHNX_Suns) April 25, 2026

Booker had to briefly retreat to the locker room for treatment, but was able to check back in later in the quarter.

No foul was called on the play, which only made fans angrier. Some noted that Dort seemingly raised his arm after the play, as if expecting to be whistled for a foul.

Lu Dort tried to trip Book. Raised his hand to admit he fouled him. And they still let it go.

— Tony Clements (@TonyCMKE) April 25, 2026

Fairly or not, Dort has garnered a reputation for this sort of thing. The Denver Nuggets were infuriated late in the regular season when the Thunder forward seemingly pulled a similar move on Nikola Jokic. He was also accused of trying to take out Victor Wembanyama last December.

The Thunder already went into Saturday’s game with a 2-0 lead in the series, so the Suns were in something of a do-or-die situation. If Booker is at all hobbled by this, Suns fans are definitely going to zero in on Dort as an antagonist, just as several other fanbases have.

Browns reveal plan for Dillon Gabriel after drafting another QB

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The Cleveland Browns picked another quarterback in the NFL Draft on Saturday, raising questions about what they might do with the quarterbacks they selected in the last draft.

The Browns opened the sixth round of the draft Saturday by selecting Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green at No. 182 overall. The selection means the Browns have taken the very unusual step of drafting three quarterbacks in a two-year span. There had been talk that Green might be converted to wide receiver at the NFL level, but Browns GM Andrew Berry made it clear that the team sees him as a quarterback.

#Browns GM Andrew Berry asked if there’s any thought to moving Taylen Green to receiver: “He’s playing quarterback. He’s playing quarterback.” https://t.co/bpTWyHzLKj

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 25, 2026

Speculation immediately shifted to the future of Dillon Gabriel. The Browns picked Gabriel in the third round of last year’s draft, but he was unimpressive as a rookie and eventually wound up behind fellow 2025 draft pick Shedeur Sanders on the depth chart.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, however, that the Browns have no intention of trading Gabriel despite their suddenly crowded quarterback room.

Despite drafting QB Taylen Green today, the Browns say they have no plans to trade QB Dillon Gabriel. https://t.co/7FWsRwlTK0

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 25, 2026

This may just be posturing by the Browns in order to maintain some sort of trade value, because their current quarterback situation is untenable. In addition to Sanders and Gabriel, the team still hopes Deshaun Watson can contribute in 2026, and his contract makes him immovable anyway.

Gabriel would be the logical quarterback to be moved, with Sanders expected to compete for the starting job. While the Browns drafted Gabriel ahead of Sanders, the former Oregon quarterback showed little during game action, and would profile as the odd man out if the Browns had to get rid of one. For now, the plan appears to be to keep all four.

Makai Lemon on the phone with the Steelers just before the Eagles drafted him

Steelers could get in trouble for their Makai Lemon phone call

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The Pittsburgh Steelers were publicly embarrassed on Thursday when the Philadelphia Eagles traded up to snap wide receiver Makai Lemon out from under them. Somehow, the situation might get even worse for them.

The Steelers were not yet on the clock at No. 21 when they called Lemon, who they planned to pick, expecting that the Dallas Cowboys would not use the No. 20 pick on a wide receiver. The Cowboys traded that pick to the Eagles, however, leading to an incredibly awkward moment in which their new wide receiver was already on the phone with Pittsburgh.

Former Eagles executive Jake Rosenberg pointed out on X that NFL rules prohibit teams from having contact with players if it conflicts with the team on the clock. In other words, the Steelers might have breached a rule by calling Lemon early.

Clubs that are not “on the clock” may have discussions with the representative of one or more draft-eligible players not yet selected (or discussion with the players themselves) regarding the player’s interest in playing in the League, playing with a particular club or type of… https://t.co/5gdpABUJEY

— Jake Rosenberg (@jakerosenberg33) April 24, 2026

Rosenberg added that it is “strange” and a “rare breach of process” for any team to put itself in the position the Steelers put themselves in. Steelers GM Omar Khan has been with the organization since 2011 and served as GM since 2022, so it’s not as if he is new at this, either.

A league spokesperson told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that “all aspects of the Draft” would be reviewed after its conclusion, but did not comment specifically on this situation.

On one hand, the Steelers obviously did not know the Eagles were planning to trade up and snipe Lemon, and they presumably did not think they were stepping on any toes. On the other hand, most teams wait until they’re on the clock to call their would-be draft picks precisely to avoid situations like this one.

The Eagles ultimately got their wide receiver, and it’s the Steelers who wound up embarrassed by the whole situation. That was not the point, but Philadelphia fans might see it as a bonus.

49ers draft pick jumped into his pool to celebrate getting the call

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke

One San Francisco 49ers draft pick had the best way of celebrating his selection in the NFL Draft.

Defensive end Romello Height went No. 70 overall to the Niners and had quite the wild party at his home. It culminated in Height and his agent, Shawn O’Gorman, jumping into the pool to celebrate.

— Shawn O'Gorman (@agent__OG) April 25, 2026

Needless to say, Height was pumped. So was his draft party, which screamed and cheered as it became clear that the 25-year-old had been drafted.

Part of the reason Height was so excited was because he apparently had some sort of premonition that he would be selected by the Niners.

Height was picked out of Texas Tech, but also spent time playing for Auburn, USC, and Georgia Tech during his collegiate career. He had nine sacks and ten tackles for a loss with the Red Raiders, and was named first-team All-Big 12 last season.

Dog of Saints pick Oscar Delp becomes Internet star during NFL Draft

Oscar Delp was overshadowed a bit at the NFL Draft by his furry friend.

The former University of Georgia tight end Delp was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round on Friday. Delp went with the No. 73 overall pick to New Orleans.

Georgia Football posted a great video to their X page of the moment that Delp learned he had been drafted. However, Delp’s dog quickly became the real star of the video.

As Delp heard his name called, he leapt up off the couch and embraced with his family and friends. Sensing its opportunity, Delp’s pupper climbed up onto the now-empty couch and made itself at home.

Here is the priceless video.

Delp, 22, won a national championship with Georgia as a freshman in 2022 and caught 20 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown as a senior in 2025. But what the people really want is some bio information about Delp’s dog, who has officially displaced Bill Belichick’s pooch as the biggest viral canine star in NFL Draft history.

Sean McVay is so sick of talking about the Ty Simpson pick

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is clearly over trying to explain his muted response after the team picked quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 13 overall.

McVay was interviewed by ESPN on Saturday and was asked to explain why he seemed so ornery after the team decided to draft a developmental quarterback so high. The Rams coach said there were “some other things I was grumpy about,” but admitted that his reaction was in part out of respect for Matthew Stafford.

“I would have been stoic by nature anyway just based on the respect for Matthew,” McVay said. It’s a unique situation. You get a chance to be able to take a player that you like at a really important position, but you don’t want it to be minimized or misunderstood in terms of what this means in terms of our investment and our commitment to Matthew for as long as he wants to continue to play. You’re kind of teetering that line and clearly I came off a little grumpier than normal.”

Sean McVay tells Kyle Brandt and Peter Schrager (together again!) that his reaction to picking Ty Simpson was, in part, because he didn't want to send the wrong signal to Matthew Stafford. pic.twitter.com/zDZuQg8T44

— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) April 25, 2026

Even during the interview, McVay’s grumpiness returned, as he sarcastically said the Simpson pick “didn’t get a lot of attention” and that he was “glad that we’re talking about it.”

Sean McVay is so annoyed by the Ty Simpson pick still:

McVay also cited “normal life” reasons for his mood when addressing the situation on Friday. Still, the initial reaction will linger for many who are convinced that the Rams coach was not happy with the selection.

Reports have suggested that McVay and GM Les Snead were totally aligned on the pick. You just would not know it from McVay’s public demeanor.

Isaiah Stewart gets a flagrant foul for whacking Jalen Suggs in the face

Jalen Suggs got Beef Stew’d during Saturday’s Game 3.

Suggs and the Orlando Magic faced off against Isaiah Stewart and the Detroit Pistons for the third game of their first-round playoff series. In the second quarter at Kia Center in Orlando, Fla., Stewart rotated over to defend a Suggs drive to the rim and ended up whacking the Magic guard in the face.

Take a look at the video (in which Stewart caught Suggs with a downward swipe as Suggs was airborne).

Stewart was whistled for a common foul on the spot. Upon an official review however, the foul was upgraded to a flagrant 1.

This is not the first incident for Stewart in the series against the Magic either. Before Game 1, Stewart got physical with Orlando’s Desmond Bane during a pregame run-in.

While the foul against Suggs itself looked like a fairly weak flagrant call, Stewart’s reputation may have preceded him there. The 24-year-old big man Stewart is known as perhaps the most confrontational player in the league and has had multiple (very) physical incidents with opponents just this season alone.

New Ravens draft pick has the most legendary nickname

The Baltimore Ravens’ new fourth-round draft pick is bringing the vibes.

Baltimore selected wide receiver Elijah Sarratt with the No. 115 overall pick in Saturday’s NFL Draft. Sarratt heads to the Ravens after spending the last two seasons at Indiana and winning the national championship with them in the 2025 campaign.

Sarratt revealed to reporters after being drafted that he has a legendary nickname (which was given to him by his father). The 22-year-old Sarratt is nicknamed “Waffle House” because he is always open.

“It’s a cool nickname but it’s a mindset also,” said Sarratt, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

Waffle House is, of course, the institution restaurant popular mainly in the Midwest and the South. Indeed, Waffle House is famous for always being open, 24/7/365.

As for Sarratt, he is coming off a senior season for the Hoosiers in which he caught 65 passes for 830 yards and tied for the FBS lead with 15 receiving touchdowns. Sarratt is already proving to be ready for the NFL from a marketing standpoint too with a perfect nickname that rivals the one that Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Ja’Marr Chase gave to himself a couple of years ago.

The fake Ohio State quarterback did not get much of a reaction, but presumably that will be addressed in post-production.

While we do not know exactly which production this was filmed for, Matt Yoder of Awful Announcing suggested it may be an upcoming Hulu series titled “The Land.” It is slated to star William H. Macy as the owner of an NFL team based on the Browns, though it appears that the show ultimately got the full backing of the league.

Those watching at home did not see this moment on television, though they apparently will get the chance at some point. Either way, it looks like Goodell will be getting another acting credit for his resume.

Pete Crow-Armstrong is continuing his blood feud with the Los Angeles Dodgers fanbase.

The Chicago Cubs star outfielder Crow-Armstrong spoke this week to Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times amid his team’s weekend series against the Dodgers. Crow-Armstrong was asked about his comments over the offseason taking shots at fans of the Dodgers.

The 24-year-old All-Star proceeded to double and triple down on his remarks dissing the Angeleno fanbase, particularly the bandwagon fans.

“What I wish people could see through is, I’m not getting at die-hard Dodger fans,” Crow-Armstrong said this week. “They obviously exist, they’re out there. I grew up seeing those people, too. But it’s a see-me city, man.

“It’s a Lakers city where people show up to sit courtside and look good,” added Crow-Armstrong. “And I view it the same way here. Thank you Shohei [Ohtani] and Freddie [Freeman] and Mookie [Betts] because it wasn’t always like this.”

Back in February, Crow-Armstrong started the hostilities by speaking out on the perceived differences between Cubs fans and Dodgers fans. Later that month, Crow-Armstrong proceeded to take more swipes at Dodgers fans over their history of bad behavior.

Crow-Armstrong is a Sherman Oaks, Calif. native who grew up attending a number of Dodgers games in the 2000s and 2010s. Thus, Crow-Armstrong feels that it makes him an authority on the changes in the fanbase over the years.

Reason for Kevin Durant’s no-show on Rockets bench in Game 3 revealed

April 25, 2026 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Kevin Durant was entirely MIA for Friday’s Game 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers, but it at least seems like he had a good reason for it.

The Houston Rockets star Durant had to sit out of Game 3 at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas due to a left ankle sprain. Durant was a late scratch after reportedly experiencing swelling and tenderness that failed to subside during pregame warmups.

Interestingly enough, Durant was not on the Rockets bench at all throughout the entire game. Without Durant around, Houston lost a 112-108 overtime heartbreaker to the Lakers after a catastrophic collapse in the final 30 seconds of regulation.

After the game, Rockets coach Ime Udoka revealed to reporters why Durant was not on the team’s bench. Udoka said that Durant spent the entire game receiving treatment on his ankle, per Houston team reporter Jackson Gatlin.

Indeed, the former MVP Durant was probably better served getting around-the-clock treatment, especially with a need to maximize his potential return window now that the Rockets are down in the series to the Lakers 3-0. But in terms of solidarity and team cohesion, you can see why the absence might not have been the best look for Durant.

Now 37 years old, Durant also missed Game 1 of the series due to a sudden knee injury. With the Rockets facing elimination in Sunday’s Game 4, Durant is facing a lot of uncertainty right now, both in terms of the series and in terms of what his future in Houston might look like from here.

Jets trade up for intriguing quarterback prospect

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke

The New York Jets have added an interesting prospect to their quarterback room.

The Jets traded up to select former Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik with the 110th overall pick in the NFL Draft on Saturday. The Jets parted with the 128th and 140th picks, and also received No. 199 from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Klubnik going in the fourth round was something of a surprise, particularly with the likes of LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier still on the board. He was the fifth quarterback to come off the board.

Big surprise with Clemson’s Cade Klubnik coming off the board before Garrett Nussmeier and a few others. https://t.co/rajiIF6Rni

— Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) April 25, 2026

Klubnik was a three-year starter at Clemson. Though he never quite lived up to the hype he arrived with, he did win two ACC titles and guided the team to the College Football Playoff. At one point, he was viewed as a potential No. 1 pick, but a poor senior season caused him to fall down draft boards. He threw for 2,943 yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 12 games.

For the Jets, Klubnik will be a project. They just added Geno Smith to start for them next year, but it’s a safe bet the team will invest plenty of time in Klubnik and hope he can emerge as a future starter.

Victor Wembanyama had ruthless trash talk for Blazers in Game 3

April 25, 2026 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Victor Wembanyama also apparently has the smack-talk attribute maxed out.

The San Antonio Spurs star Wembanyama had to sit out of his team’s Game 3 matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center in Portland, Ore. on Friday. Wembanyama is still clearing concussion protocol after suffering a scary fall in Game 2 of the series (see the video here).

Despite Wembanyama’s absence though, the Spurs took care of business. They beat the Blazers on the road by a final score of 120-108 to take a 2-1 series lead and wrestle back home-court advantage in the best-of-seven set.

Wembanyama also had a memorable moment during the game while in street clothes. In the second quarter, Wembanyama was shown on the television broadcast talking trash to the Blazers and apparently saying, “Y’all would have been down 4-0” if he had been healthy throughout.

The seven-footer Wembanyama exited Game 2 during the second quarter, leading Portland squeaking out a narrow 106-103 victory over San Antonio. Thus, it is indeed fair to argue that the Spurs would be in a position to sweep the Blazers if Wembanyama had not gotten injured.

Wembanyama appeared to be close to playing in Game 3 before ultimately being held out. He still made his presence felt during the game with some proper banter though and can now look ahead to potentially playing in Sunday’s Game 4 as San Antonio goes for the gentleman’s sweep instead.

Jazz Chisholm got crushed for his awful ABS challenge

April 25, 2026 by Grey Papke

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm heard it after an awful ABS challenge during Friday’s game against the Houston Astros.

Chisholm challenged a 3-2 pitch in the 9th inning of Friday’s game at Daikin Park in Houston, Tex. despite the fact that the Yankees were ahead 12-4. Making matters worse for Chisholm was the fact that the pitch he challenged was essentially right down the middle.

Chisholm’s challenge was so hopeless that YES announcers Michael Kay and David Cone got in on the mockery.

“That’s the beauty of the challenge system. Everybody gets humbled,” Cone said. “That’s right down the middle.”

Yankees booth destroys Jazz for this awful ABS challenge:

Kay: “Right down the middle. And the crowd mocks him with boos.”

Cone: “That’s the beauty of the challenge system, you get humbled. That’s right down the middle.”

The wildest part is that judging by Chisholm’s reaction, he genuinely thought it was a borderline pitch. Needless to say, in a game that was already functionally over, he was also booed by the Houston crowd.

Chisholm has challenged six pitches this season and lost five of them. He probably can’t blame the weather for that lack of success.

Ime Udoka lays into his team after Rockets’ unreal Game 3 collapse

April 24, 2026 by Renzo Pocholo Salao
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka called out his players after the team’s epic collapse on Friday night against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Rockets had a win virtually wrapped up with under 30 seconds left in Game 3 of their Western Conference first-round series at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Despite having possession and a six-point lead, the Rockets still found a way to lose the contest.

Two avoidable turnovers, a fouled three-point shooter, and a clutch three from LeBron James forced overtime. The pressure of choking and falling to 0-3 in the series consumed the Rockets in OT, losing 112-108 against an undermanned Lakers squad.

Udoka laid into his team during his postgame press conference.

“Horrendous mistakes,” Udoka said with a stern look on his face. “I don’t know if you want to say youth, or scared of the moment, or whatever the case.

“You have a six-point lead with 20, 30 seconds to go. Get a rebound and just have to hold the ball, get fouled. … To make it worse, a terrible foul on Marcus Smart to give him three free throws.

“Next play, backcourt, you’ve got it. Double’s coming. You try to split it instead of throwing it to [Alperen Sengun] wide open. Turnover, and James makes a tough shot.”

Houston had a chance to salvage a win with a last-second shot in regulation. Udoka added that Houston did not run the play he drew up, resulting in Sengun badly missing a contested fadeaway along the baseline.

With the Rockets’ season all but over barring a miraculous turnaround, Udoka could be looking at an offseason on the hot seat. While he could be angry at his players for letting a winnable game slip away, Udoka still deserves part of the blame as head coach.

Beyond the Game 3 collapse, the Rockets were outplayed and outcoached through three games against a Lakers team missing two of its three best players.

Munetaka Murakami is on a home run tear that MLB has never seen from a rookie.

HOME RUN NO. 11 pic.twitter.com/KW8paBl3K3

— MLB (@MLB) April 25, 2026

The home run was Murakami’s 11th of the season — an unfathomable number for someone who took his first MLB at-bats just over a month ago. The Japanese stud became the first rookie ever to surpass 10 home runs before the calendar reached May.

Murakami bested Aaron Judge, Trevor Story, and Jose Abreu, who each had legendary rookie campaigns that saw them hit 10 home runs through April.

The White Sox still have five games left in April for Murakami to pad his lead even more. Given that he just his home runs in six of his last seven games, there’s a decent chance he can add at least one more before May.

Murakami hit a home run in each of his first three games before hitting a bit of a cold stretch in the early part of April, then finding his form again over the past two weeks.

For reference, Shohei Ohtani similarly had a 3-game home run streak in his first week as a rookie for the Los Angeles Angels back in 2018, but only had four home runs by May.

In all fairness to Ohtani, he was missing a fifth of his possible at-bats back then on the days he was on the mound as a starting pitcher.

The White Sox won over Murakami in free agency in December in a deal that’s now looking like an absolute bargain. The team hilariously misspelled Murakami’s name on his locker during spring training. After 11 home runs through most of April, that mistake won’t be happening again.

Sean McVay has addressed his ‘grumpy’ behavior after Rams drafted Ty Simpson

April 24, 2026 by Renzo Pocholo Salao

Sean McVay wants the world to know that NFL head coaches can sometimes be grumpy for reasons other than football.

The Los Angeles Rams coach turned heads on Thursday for looking unenthusiastic after his team drafted Ty Simpson. Fans and media members alike read into the moment as McVay’s non-verbal way of expressing disapproval of general manager Les Snead drafting Matthew Stafford’s potential successor.

McVay shot that notion down during the Rams’ press conference following Day 2 of the 2026 NFL draft. A report emerged earlier in the day that McVay was “in lockstep” with Snead on the Simpson pick, and the veteran coach confirmed it.

“What do you guys think, am I angry right now?” McVay joked to cut through the tension.

“I will say this, though: the one thing that would never be doubted is we couldn’t be in more lockstep in every decision that we make. I get my demeanor last night. … We’re excited about [Ty Simpson].

“Always want to be mindful of how things come off, things like that. … Couldn’t be more excited about us continuing to lead together, but every decision that we make is collective and collaborative.”

“Sometimes, I could be a little grumpy,” McVay admitted.

Asked about why he was feeling grumpy, McVay stated that he had “normal life” reasons that had nothing to do with the Rams’ draft decisions.

McVay called it a “blessing” for Simpson to get the chance to learn from Stafford. The Rams coach added that he was also trying to be respectful of his longtime starting QB, which is what many interpreted from the previous day’s press conference.

Stafford has had to answer questions about retirement for several offseasons now, but has continued to post productive seasons for the Rams year after year. If Stafford still has a few more MVP-caliber campaigns left in the tank, Simpson may be sitting behind him for quite some time.

Rockets with possession and the lead in game 3 against the Lakers

Rockets had one of the most catastrophic choke jobs ever to end Game 3

The Houston Rockets snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on Friday to fall one game away from postseason elimination.

The Rockets led 101-95 with just over 30 seconds left in Game 3 of their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The contest looked done and dusted after LeBron James clanked a three-pointer, and the Rockets secured the rebound.

Houston had possession and a six-point lead with just a little over a full shot clock of game time remaining. The win was basically guaranteed at that point, which may be why the Rockets got complacent.

Jabari Smith Jr. lofted a lazy pass that was stolen away by Marcus Smart near the halfcourt line. Smart then got fouled by Jae’Sean Tate while from beyond the arc and sank all three free throws.

this genuinely the stupidest play i ever seen like Jabari had NO reason to throw this pass he legit wasn’t even getting pressured???? pic.twitter.com/BQ5TufV8cy

The Rockets still led by three and just needed to take care of the ball. They did not do that, however, as Reed Sheppard got his pocket picked by LeBron James in the backcourt. The Lakers star then got the ball back and proceeded to drain a contested three-pointer to tie the game with 13 seconds left.

The game went into overtime, where the Lakers prevailed in a 112-108 stunner in Texas.

The Rockets entered Friday’s matchup behind in the series 0-2, making Game 3 an absolute must-win contest. That win was already theirs up until one of the most monumental collapses in recent playoff memory.

No NBA team has ever come back to win after being down 0-3 in a series.

Ty Simpson reveals message he got from Kelly Stafford after Rams drafted him

April 24, 2026 by Renzo Pocholo Salao

Ty Simpson has connected with the Stafford family, but not through the member who’s the Los Angeles Rams’ starting quarterback.

The Rams made Simpson the surprise pick of the 2026 NFL draft when they selected him 13th overall. It was quite the use of the team’s first-round pick when incumbent QB1 Matthew Stafford just won the MVP trophy last season.

The Rams reportedly had to assure Stafford that the pick was made for after he decides to retire. But Stafford’s true thoughts on the matter have yet to be made public.

Simpson spoke to reporters on Friday and was asked if Stafford had contacted him since getting drafted. The rookie shared that it was actually Matthew’s wife Kelly Stafford who had reached out to him so far.

“I have not. Kelly has actually texted me on Instagram,” Simpson said. “Welcomed me and told me to hit her up with my family if we ever needed anything.”

“But I can’t wait to talk to Matthew,” followed Simpson. “I’m super ecstatic. I just want to pick his brain about everything. Soak up all that knowledge. How he goes about things.”

Simpson added that he’s been a “big fan” of Matthew Stafford for “a long time.” Ty also got a welcome message from Rams safety Quentin Lake.

It’s tough to read too much into Stafford not messaging Simpson yet. That may just not be his style, and he could prefer to connect with his teammates in person later on.

Fans and media members, however, felt like Rams head coach Sean McVay wasn’t happy with the Simpson pick. McVay seemed to be in an uncharacteristically dour mood during the Rams’ press conference following Day 1 of the draft.

One report indicated that McVay was “in lockstep” with Rams GM Les Snead over the Stafford pick, and his seemingly sullen state was a show of solidarity for his veteran QB.
