An on-field fight during a college baseball game Tuesday wound up getting so out of hand, it forced the game to be suspended.
Things kicked off at the end of the 11th inning of Tuesday’s NAIA game between Mobile and Spring Hill College. After Spring Hill shortstop Seth Williams popped out to the catcher, he and Mobile pitcher Isidro Jimenez appeared to exchange words.
Several Mobile players then charged in, and a free-for-all began. While it is tough to see what happened, a scrum ensued, and numerous punches were thrown by both sides.

In a statement, Spring Hill said the game was suspended after the fight, though the school deftly avoided alluding to the reason for that decision. Presumably, officials simply could not get things back under control in a way that would allow the game to continue.
“A decision regarding the game being resumed is to be determined,” the statement read.
Spring Hill is 28-9 on the season and lead their conference with a 21-2 record. NAIA baseball is essentially the equivalent of NCAA Division 3 play, so those numbers mean they are a strong program at this level.
We have seen a few wild brawls at the college level this year. None were severe enough to get a game halted, though.
