Jeff Brohm responds to Scott Frost’s ‘game we can win’ remark

Scott Frost could not be off to a worse start in his first season as the head coach at Nebraska, and he finds himself desperate for a win heading into Saturday’s Big Ten matchup with Purdue. It’s certainly a winnable game, but the way Frost pointed that out has ruffled some feathers.

After Nebraska’s blowout loss against Michigan, Frost said the Cornhuskers have a chance to start fresh in Week 5 with “a game we can win next week.” That was interpreted by some as a slight at Purdue, and Boilermakers coach Jeff Brohm made it clear his team took note.

Scott Frost, Saturday afternoon: "We get a game we can win next week."

“I think obviously he was talking after a loss he didn’t like very much, so I get it,” Brohm said of his counterpart. “I think everything that’s said is heard, and our team needs to respond and understand that we’ve got to show up ready to play and this team will be licking their chops ready to get us.”

For what it’s worth, it didn’t seem like Frost meant any disrespect. He was simply stating the obvious with his 0-3 team coming off a 56-10 loss, and Purdue is obviously a far easier opponent than Michigan.

Nebraska’s performance against Michigan was so bad that even a popular fast food chain took a shot at Frost over it. There has already been talk about whether he regrets leaving last year’s undefeated UCF team, but turning a program around takes time. While fans of a once-prominent program like Nebraska’s aren’t the most patient, they shouldn’t have expected fantastic results in Frost’s first year.
